Modern Home Kitchen

The food processor has been the comis-chef for every domestic cook for years, it’s been an old friend to many wise individuals for whom cooking at home is something of an art form.  And now?  After years of lurking in cupboards, forgotten about by a generation of less-than-enthusiasts, the food processor is back as the latest modern home kitchen-must have!  So why now?

• Due to the economic climate, there’s been a renewed interest in cooking at home.  Not just for daily meals, catering for guests to eat-in at home is a much more economical alternative to eating out, but means you can still get together with friends.  Add in the costs you are saving in car fuel or cab fares (still a rising cost in most countries), plus money saved on a sitter then even if you buy top-quality ingredients, your evening in will cost a fraction of an evening out!  However, we are still prepared to pay out for ways to cut down on time spent on the food preparation – enter the food processor!

• On a similar line, more and more books and websites are catering for our needs during the credit crunch by offering advice on how to save money when cooking for families!   One of the main money-saving techniques offered is to batch, or bulk cook: that is to cook several dishes all in one go when using the stove, to save on fuel, time and money through bulk purchase of ingredients etc.  Preparation time for this could be prohibitive if not for that friendly little kitchenaid food processor or one of its kind, sitting happily in the corner and working alongside us!

• Celebrity chefs have never been more popular.  On most days there is a cooking show featuring a celebrity chef telling us how easy it is to create actual cuisine in our own homes, and guess what their stalwart side-kick is?  Yes, the food processor!

• The rise of the internet, and particularly of on-line shopping has given us a great way to almost try before we buy any item!  On-line retailers such as Amazon, for example, sell a whole host of gadgets and kitchen implements, all of which offer purchasers the opportunity to publicly review the item.  What better way to check out the appliance that you have your eye on than by reading up the food processor reviews for individual models, to ensure that you are making the best choice?  We are happy to be guided by others’ experiences in the kitchen, so if someone recommends that a hamilton beach food processor is better for a small kitchen or that a cuisinart food processor is well suited to catering for large numbers, we know that we are being guided by customers’ actual experience and not by the manufacturers’ marketing blurb!  And because we are particularly cash-savvy nowadays, we know whose opinion we regard the better of the two!

In the current economic state of the 21^st century then, the food processor is not the ‘for show’ purchase of the 70s, but is actually proving to be the latest must-have for all of the right reasons!
